Khomenko, N.N. Possibilities of TRIZ as a universal problem solver

Abstruct

The domain of contradiction-containing problems falls far outside the scope of technology. Contradictions are found in biology, science, pedagogy and many other fields of human activity. The author has long been interested in the possibility of using TRIZ mechanisms outside the scope of technology.
This work briefly presents the results of investigating the ARIZ work mechanisms obtained through solving real and training problems by the participants of the Minsk TRIZ school, through solving production problems using the family of “Invention Machine” intelligent systems and through analyzing multiple attempts to improve ARIZ (made both by the author himself and by other TRIZ specialists). There was made an attempt to substantiate the potential of using ARIZ in non-technical areas and the obstacles to the realization of this potential were presented.

This work helps trace the evolution of concepts subsequently realized in OTSM axioms as well as in some models and technologies. It is also the first work that reflects the author's view of ARIZ as a pedagogic technology which transforms the personality of solvers themselves.

Judging by the author’s remark concerning his 10-year TRIZ-teaching experience, the work was writte in 1990 or 1991. It is published uncut with minimum editor’s alterations.
