"in our opinion, a mature applied scientific
theory should have at least four main components:
1. The problem to be solved by the theory: the
problem can be presented in the form of a question
to be answered by the theory and is thus the
subject of the theory;
2. A set of Postulates or Axioms that show what
assumptions have been made in the course of the
development of the theory. The axioms or postulates
describe the scope of the application of the theory.
3. A set of fundamental models on which the theory
operates in order to describe the elements and
processes of the systems that are being considered
by the theory – i.e. the objects of the theory;
4. A set of instruments to enable the theory to be applied
in practice and evaluated in terms of efficiency".
